About Michael Steffen
Michael participated in national and international photo exhibitions, won photo competitions and published in magazines and journals. His time in South Africa, Jamaica, Tanzania and South Sudan has left a strong mark on him. He reports on political, social and cultural events and phenomena.
No matter how artistic the photographer, no matter how carefully captured and posed his subject, the viewer feels a compelling desire to search a photograph for its tiny sparks of contingencies of the here and now. Therefore, photography allows me to learn about people, places and cultures as well as socio-economic and political factors that shape the visual world.
Photography allows me to reflect on my experiences as well as myself, which effectively results in personal growth. Photography is an ever evolving learning experience and I am ready to broaden my horizon.

With photography as my medium of choice, I am aiming to bring injustices related to economic inequalities, racism and human rights to the foreground. »Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. Maybe many of us won‘t be there to greet her, but on a quiet day, if I listen carefully I can hear her breathing.« With the words of Arundhati Roy, hope as well as empathy, I believe in a more just and equal world for all.
